Policy-Based Routing (PBR)
Policy-Based Routing (PBR) allows administrators to precisely control how traffic is routed across multiple WAN connections—based on business intent rather than default routing rules.
Instead of sending all traffic through a single Internet link, PBR enables traffic to be intelligently steered through specific groups of WAN interfaces according to user-defined policies.
With 7G Fuse, users can:
- Create WAN Groups by combining one or more WAN interfaces
(e.g., Fiber + 5G, Dual ISP, Backup LTE links) - Assign traffic policies to these groups
- Ensure traffic always exits through the intended WAN path
This abstraction simplifies routing management and ensures consistency across policies.
PBR rules can be created using multiple traffic attributes, including:
Route traffic based on:
- Source IP address (specific device, subnet, or VLAN)
- Destination IP address (remote servers, cloud services, data centers)
Example:
Route traffic from the finance subnet to a dedicated MPLS or primary ISP link.
Route traffic based on:
- Source port
- Destination port (application or service-specific)
Example:
Send VoIP traffic (SIP/RTP ports) through the lowest-latency WAN group.
7G Fuse supports URL and domain name–based Policy-Based Routing, allowing specific internet services to always use a designated WAN group.
Administrators can:
- Define policies using domain names or URLs
- Bind those domains to a specific WAN group
- Ensure all traffic related to those domains exits only through the assigned WAN links

- Force cloud backups or large downloads through a secondary or unlimited WAN
